TROUBLESHOOTING WORKSHOP

No reception?

From a silent speaker to an overloaded SDR: work through the receiving chain.

For analogue voice and SDR reception. Use a known station that is actually active. An empty channel alone does not prove a fault.

YOUR NEXT USEFUL TEST

Choose a reliable reference

A silent channel may simply be unused. Propagation and location also affect the comparison.

  1. Choose a station within the receiver’s range that is known to be active. Verify frequency, units, mode and filter using reliable station information.
  2. For SSB check the sideband; for FM check the bandwidth. Disable tone/code squelch for this comparison as described in the manual.

What to look for next

A suitable reference distinguishes one missing signal from a problem affecting the whole receiving chain.
