Maidenhead locator

The Maidenhead system divides Earth into labelled geographic cells. Additional characters refine the cell; a locator identifies an area rather than an exact address.

A concrete example

JN47 is coarser than JN47db. The calculator uses each cell’s centre for distance and bearing.

What to keep in mind

A calculated great-circle distance is not a measured radio propagation path.
