Think of the connection in stages.

  1. Radio & local RF link

Mode, frequency and access parameters must match. D-STAR and DMR are different systems.

  2. Repeater or hotspot

A repeater or personal access point can connect local RF to a data network. A working internet connection does not yet verify the RF link.

  3. Destination & return path

Talkgroups, reflectors or callsign routing determine the onward path. Check that replies also reach your chosen access.
