- Digital radio → MMDVM modem → Pi-Star gateway → internet network
This simplex hotspot connects a compatible digital handheld over a short radio link to an internet digital-voice network. MMDVM processes the radio signals, while Pi-Star combines modem and gateway services with their configuration. Operation takes place through a dashboard in a local web browser.
Pi-Star supports multiple digital modes and networks, including D-STAR, DMR, YSF, P25 and NXDN. Available modes depend on the modem, its firmware and the configured services. A simplex hotspot alternates transmission and reception on the same frequency; it does not replace a simultaneously transmitting and receiving duplex repeater.

- Browser dashboard for mode, gateway and configuration.
- MMDVM software family with digital modem and gateway services.
- Pi-Star supports several digital-voice networks.
- Cross-mode gateways are possible depending on modem and configuration.
