The ID-52E Plus is a dual-band handheld for analog FM and D-STAR on 2 m and 70 cm. Its two receive bands can monitor two signals simultaneously, including two D-STAR signals. The 2.3-inch colour display presents frequencies, callsigns and a waterfall view for spotting activity within the monitored band.

Built-in GPS supports nearby repeater searches, D-PRS position reporting and position logging. Bluetooth 5.3 connects compatible audio accessories and remote-control apps. USB-C supports charging, programming, CI-V control and microSD access. Icom provides separate software for internet Terminal and Access Point operation; these functions require a suitable network and gateway configuration.
