TROUBLESHOOTING WORKSHOP

No reception?

From a silent speaker to an overloaded SDR: work through the receiving chain.

For analogue voice and SDR reception. Use a known station that is actually active. An empty channel alone does not prove a fault.

YOUR NEXT USEFUL TEST

Get the receiver ready first

Until the device or data connection is ready, antenna and filter tests tell you little.

  1. On a radio, check the battery, contacts and manufacturer-approved supply. On a USB SDR, check the driver, selected device and a known working data cable.
  2. Change one thing, then restart. Note the error message; do not blindly reset drivers or saved channels.

What to look for next

Once the receiver starts reliably, go back and check the audio branch.
