TROUBLESHOOTING WORKSHOP

No reception?

From a silent speaker to an overloaded SDR: work through the receiving chain.

For analogue voice and SDR reception. Use a known station that is actually active. An empty channel alone does not prove a fault.

YOUR NEXT USEFUL TEST

Check the audio output separately

Without audible noise, it is unclear whether reception is missing or sound is being suppressed.

  1. Check volume, monitor and any tone/code squelch according to the manual. CTCSS or DCS decoding can suppress audio despite a received carrier.
  2. Disconnect an external headset and compare the internal speaker. On an SDR, check the operating system output and app volume against a known audio file.

What to look for next

Audible noise confirms an audio path, but not receiver sensitivity or the antenna.
