Squelch

Squelch mutes audio when its opening condition is not met. With level- or noise-based squelch, the threshold determines when audio becomes audible.

Also found under: Squelch · Rauschsperre

A concrete example

If a signal is visible but silent, an excessively high squelch threshold may be the cause.

What to keep in mind

Squelch does not improve the received signal; it controls audio output.
