SWR / standing wave ratio

SWR is the ratio of maximum to minimum voltage on a line with standing waves. It is related to reflection caused by an impedance mismatch.

Also found under: SWR · VSWR · Stehwellenverhältnis · Standing Wave Ratio

A concrete example

At SWR 2:1 the reflection-coefficient magnitude is 1/3; the reflected power fraction at that point is about 11.1%.

What to keep in mind

Low SWR does not prove antenna efficiency: a matched dummy load can also have 1:1 SWR.
