The IC-F4029SDR is an early-generation digital PMR446 handheld. It provides 16 digital channels at 6.25 kHz spacing and eight analog PMR446 channels at 12.5 kHz spacing. Digital operation uses 4FSK and FDMA; analog mode communicates with appropriately configured conventional PMR446 radios.

A distinctive feature is its set of 32 preset status messages. Message texts of up to 16 characters and associated alert tones are configured using cloning software. The radio has a removable lithium-ion battery, fixed antenna and separate microphone/speaker connections. Programming and technical alignment use different software tools.
