Choose the right system
D-STAR, DMR and dPMR are different systems.
A digital radio must match the other station and access point. The Icom ID-52E PLUS supports D-STAR; my AnyTone radios use DMR. Despite similar names, dPMR446 radios are not compatible with amateur DMR.
Separate the local radio link from the internet network. Two compatible radios can communicate directly; a repeater extends local access. A hotspot connects a short local RF link to a network. None of these paths alone proves that another station hears you.
Your turn.
Choose D-STAR or DMR and draw the path: radio → direct partner, repeater or hotspot → optional network. Open the corresponding guide.
